Worthing Youth Theatre recognised a need to move forward into the digital age and have transformed the original senior group in to Worthing Youth Media (WYM). The original aim to ‘inspire through drama’ has developed in to ‘inspire through drama and media’.
The change has proved to be a popular move. The young people can become involved in creating film, animation or TV and recording for radio or podcasting. Whatever the media, young people can have a go.
Drama is still an important part of the organisation because performers are needed in front of the camera and character voices are needed for recordings. The younger members take part in weekly drama workshops to build up these skills.
Through WYM the senior members have a choice to explore new skills. Many of these new skills will lead to job opportunities in the future.
